 New Definitions:

Excerpts from the minutes from the recently held NCEA meeting in Orlando:

MEDICAL SPA DEFINITION

A medical spa is a facility that operates under the full-time, on-site supervision of a licensed health care professional. The facility operates within the scope of practice of its staff, and offers traditional, complementary, and alternative health practices and treatments in a spa-like setting. Practitioners working within a medical spa will be governed by their appropriate licensing board, if licensure is required.

Eric Light made a motion for the NCEA to accept this definition to provide to State Board inquiries, as requested. Hannelore Leavy seconded this motion.

The motion was put to a vote to the delegates and carried with no opposition.

These definitions are now being presented to the 50 State Boards for their considerations. Thank you Susanne Warfield of the NCEA.

 TidBits:

The Entrepreneurial Myth: Because technicians know how to do the work, they presume that they know how to create a business that works ... and that's the fatal assumption - believing that if you understand the technical work of a business you understand a business that does work. It's the logic that says, "Because I am a great cook, I should be able to create a successful restaurant". This assumption is the root cause of most small-business failures. Priority Magazine March/April 2004

Happiness is a state of mind that can vary from day to day. The pursuit of truth is more important than the pursuit of happiness. I think happiness is what you make it, given the life you have to work with. David Saunders in Fast Company

Americans are beginning to change the way they define financial success. It is not accomplished by earning a high income or even by accumulating a lot of assets. True financial success comes from aligning your time, money and energy with your values. Only then can money make you happy. Martin Hurlburt in Fast Company

Interview with Camilla Soderblom
Founder, Heartfelt Message in a Bottle

1. What was the reasoning behind founding Heartfelt Message in a Bottle?
After searching my heart and soul for the purpose of my life, it became clear to me earlier this year. I had always wanted to go to Medical School ever since High School, however I was discouraged due to a physical back problem. Based on my grades, I was told by my High School Counselor to go into any other field, and I ended up with an MBA in Marketing and an Esthetician's License. I feel like my life has finally come full circle. I enjoy working with my customers every day, and I look forward to growing the organization.
2. Who does your philanthropic program benefit?
The Mission Statement is: Heartfelt Message in a Bottle is a nonprofit organization. Its message is to lift the spirit of women in distress in Orange County, CA, by providing facial- and body products and services for their hygienic needs, and overall well being.
3. Describe more details about your program.
Heartfelt Message in a Bottle has set out to support various causes. Donations received will benefit a range of local organizations such as shelters, churches and other nonprofit organizations to find deserving hands. For example, teen-age mums, women in transition, elderly, poverty stricken and battered women. Services are provided as well, such as skin care and makeup classes.
4. How are your programs received?
There has been a tremendous response to the individuals I have come in contact with. Many, if not all, wants to help in their own way, and we have already firmed up relationships with Donors, Beneficiaries as well as Partners.

For more information, visit www.heartfeltmessageinabottle.org or heartfeltmessageinabottle@yahoo.com.

Please do not forget to keep us posted what is happening at your spa or business. We are also considering doing some short on-line surveys. If you have an idea of what you want to know - email us at Hannelore@dayspaassociation.com. I am always happy to hear from our members.

Healthfully,

Hannelore R. Leavy
Executive Director
